The kids loved singing this song at the Scripture Assembly I was at last year. Once you’ve learnt the song, try singing it without the music and see how long you can go for ‘Ooooooooh’ with one breath!

Behold our God – Sovereign Grace Music

This song takes us on a journey from creation to the cross. The chorus reminds us of God enthroned in glory – just as the people in the story recognised that Jesus was their king and welcomed him.

Jesus, Strong and Kind – City Alight feat. Colin Buchanan

There’s a lot to like about this song. It’s proof that kid’s songs don’t have to always be happy-clappy songs, and it works well as a song for adults too (the worship video is a great picture of this!) This song also provides a timely reminder of God’s strength, kindness and presence with us.

This morning we hear about the willingness of Jesus to go to the cross for us. The songs I have chosen help us to reflect on the enormity of this act of love. That he went to Jerusalem knowing what was ahead of him. Through His death on the cross Jesus made a way for us to not to be separated from God anymore. His blood was shed so we can live. Thinking about this should bring our hearts to place of thankfulness and worship. As you listen to or sing the songs know that Jesus did this for you.

These songs represent Palm Sunday, when Jesus rode into Jerusalem with the crowds praising Him as King, with Hallelujahs and palm leaves, a week later their cry was to “crucify Him.”

1) Read the passage Dan read out – Deuteronomy 6:6-9. What stands out to you about this passage?

2) What do you think it would mean practically to “tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. Write them on the doorframes of your houses and on your gates.”

3) What do you think are the different uses of Bible memory verses? Is it worth bothering?
